Why we started a Direct Primary Care practice

Drs. Malasa and I have always been out of the box thinkers and like to forage our own path. We started a direct primary care practice because it lets us incorporate our passions into the way we practice.

  • For me, personally, I’ve always been passionate about health and wellness and knew early on that I wouldn’t be able to incorporate these facets into a traditional insurance-based medical practice.

  • Learning about health, nutrition, exercise, sleep, and how to live healthier takes time and effort on both the part of the doctor and patient. Studies show that it takes, on average, about 12 months to make lasting behavior changes. This typically involves frequent visits, lectures, workshops on topics related to nutrition, sleep, exercise and more with the goal of empowering individuals to make healthier choices. While it takes time, the journey is extremely rewarding when you start to see changes and begin to regain control of your health.

  • Traditional medical practices don’t allow for this. They are based on a fee-for-service model where doctors have to see a higher number of patients, around 25-30 per day. More patients means less time per person, which why the average visits last only 8 minutes and often feels impersonal. With direct primary care, we eliminated insurance from the picture and get paid directly by our patients. This lets us focus our time and energy on getting you healthier.

We love direct primary care because we have the time to empower our patients and teach them practical skills—like how to shop at the grocery store, read nutrition labels, or learn how to exercise. That’s what we do here at Kahn Health and is the reason why we started a direct primary care practice. We get to focus our and energy on getting you healthier instead of chasing disease with more medications.

We’re excited to be part of your journey toward better health. If you’re ready to schedule a visit, visit our scheduling page.
